Samantha Buckley
Registered Play Therapist

I have many years experience working with children and families as a teacher, SENCO and in family support as well as having my own children. I trained as a Play Therapist with PTUK and I’m passionate about empowering children to express and process their feelings and experiences. Play therapy uses play, a child’s natural form of expression, as a means of understanding and communicating with children about feelings, thoughts and behaviour. It allows them to do this safely and at their own pace.
I have a Tavistock and Portman Postgraduate qualification in Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Health and have also completed training in Traumatic Bereavement and Therapeutic Life Story work. As part of my own development and progression I’m currently doing further training which will mean I can offer Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) from September 2023.

Starting with a dance career that included training at the High School for the performing Arts Texas and London Contemporary Dance School, I performed everything from ballet to hip hop across the UK. Over the past 30 years I have supported young people to create projects that capture their voice and aspirations including award winning peer education projects (Philip Lawrence Award) and break dance projects. Over the past ten years I have developed my individual support to young people as a case officer in Gloucestershire Public Protection Unit and the Shaw Trust focusing on child exploitation.
